Oklahoma | You can check on craigslist after show season or go find a Senior FFA student that is graduating. See if they are going to sell there stuff. Got a family friend that just bought out a seniors "collection" and got feeders, clippers, and a cage for the truck for a couple hundred bucks.
I bought my clippers from Midstates Wool Growers, they had a booth at Sedalia and several shows around here. They are Lister/Wahl, only have one head but looked real hard at a set that could swap heads for cattle or sheep. Only reasons I bought the set I did was my son said they felt better in his hands and the rep said most young kids started with a set like these. Used a set of Premier clippers that was smaller once and I absolutely loved them. I think one day I will break down and buy one of those but I don't remember the model number, just remember they were QUIET and light. Show cattle guys seem to use them alot.
Edit - Look for something if going used that you can get parts to. We have several older sets that between several families we swap parts for because they no longer carry parts. Dad has a handset for commercial shearing that he finally got a commercial sheep shearer who had a part.
Also look at something you can get blades for locally. Nothing like getting to the week of a show and you don't have your blades back from the sharpeners. Just need to know where you can walk in and buy a set to get you through. TractorSupply carries some but not all along with our feed store. Just something to think about.
