![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=733&type=profile&rnd=456) mora | when drilling holes in thinner material you will run into that when the land of the drill bit is more than the thickness (the land is the dim from the point to cutting edge, can be found by taking the dia times .333 on 118 degree sharpened drill bits, less on 135). pilot holes help sometimes also. rigidity is another thing. you will rarely have enough in a drill press(esp if the drill chuck is not running true) let alone with a hand held drill. sometimes it is easier to use a hole saw for thinner stuff. just remember on both that speed kills and oil is your friend :-) it is hard to make good round holes in anything other than bridgeports or better yet cnc mills. core bits do help, hard to find sometimes and usually only have morris taper shanks.
