Subject: RE: horrible cutting drill bit

Nevada, Iowa
I would have to wonder about the way it was sharpened also but with that I will add, when drilling large holes in steel, speed kills. If a drill press was used, what rpm was used? Thanks to some advice from this site, I have my press stepped down to about 50 rpm for steel. Stepping up the hole size slightly as I drill up to the size needed, slowing the bit down and using some kind of cutting aid (oil) will make nicer holes and has cut my sharpening time down to nothing. Most of the sharpening I do now is a result of the few holes I have to drill with a hand held.
