Subject: welding aluminum

I am cutting down a larger aluminum toolbox to fit our service truck, but I've never welded aluminum before. I know you can get wire for the MIG that will do aluminum, but I don't have the gas setup on the welder. I don't have a TIG, nor do I have any experience with soldering aluminum. I will likely end up takinf it to a local machine shop to have it welded.
However, I heard about welding rods you can buy for an arc welder that will do aluminum... does anyone have experience with them? http://www.zena.net/htdocs/welders/Rods/Aluminum.shtml. I am a bit skeptical as they are the only thing of their kind on the market, and I've never heard of them before.
