Northeast ND | I recommend putting the tag on the rear, which is how we have done all of ours. Plumb the air controls so that you can't raise the box unless the tag is down. In ND, you can gross 64,000 with an "equipment approval" from the highway patrol as long as you have full dual tires on all 3 rear axles, and have at least 14' from the center of your steer axle and the center of your front drive axle.
I have hauled peas to Crary, where you have to split weigh if you are over 60K. Pulled on the scale with the front axle, read 12,400 lbs, and that was with a total gross of over 64,000. There is no way you would have a front axle weight anywhere near 12K with a pusher axle ahead of your tandems, I have heard of front axle weighings of over 18K, just asking for trouble.
I can see where a guy would like a truck with a front pusher if you do a lot of long-distance hauling with a pup, but I assume that is not your intention, since you already have semis. | |
