Minimum of 60" to top of top guard rail. Spaced about 5 inches between rails. Will depend on your livestock, but keep in mind that in winter you will get a bit of build-up of snow, ice and manure so Holsteins can start to look pretty tall over the top of the fence. Most won't look under the fence so I'd go at least 2' off the ground.
