GOTTA be better than these blasted I-Joints. (edit: I guess I should explain. If you follow the links below they go to websites discussing how these I-joints perform under fire conditions. One video I saw had a new, never occupied house. During construction cleanup somehow a fire started in the basement. Firefighters walked into an unoccupied house with a perfect appearing floor ... and fell through it. The consructed material used for webbing catches fire much easier than the sawed wood on the edges. It quickly loses integrity, but the sawed wood provides enough support to give a false sense of stability and safety See the video at http://youtu.be/DWMhA2wDTes ) ![](http://firefightersenemy.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/72/files/type-v-construction/engineered-i-joist.jpg) ![](http://images.pennnet.com/articles/fe/thm/th_kirsh1.jpg)
They should be outlawed as a safety hazard. See http://firefightersenemy.com/tag/i-joists/ http://www.fireengineering.com/articles/2007/04/silent-floors-silent-killers.html
