Subject: Adjusting 3.5mm blades with valion seed guards

Northwest Texas Panhandle

I got some new 3.5mm blades from shoup and the valion seed tube guards from exapta and I'm trying to figure out how to adjust them.  Exapta says I should adjust the openers so they are lightly rubbing and not worry about the contact area.  The problem is to get the blades to touch the guard, I really have to put them tight.  In fact, I have 3 inches of contact area which seems like way too much.  According to exapta, I'm just supposed to have around 1.5" of contact.  Is this all due to the blades being warped?  It doesn't really make sense to have them pressed tight enough together that they jam together.  If I leave them loose, they're just going to flex to the seed tube guard anyway so maybe it's alright?  I called exapta but all they did was tell me I didn't read the instructions.  Thanks.
