I second this. (back in the day) The planetary gears were the weak link in the driveline ours failed early in it's life. Ours was a 1975 model (I think, as we got rid of that tractor 12 years ago now) IIRC, the update basically replaced those parts with the 4630 axles and some diff parts. Also there is an update for the Turbo as well that will give you a bit of extra power. However I agree with everyone, if given the choice and only one tractor go with the 4630. Driving them back to back it is not a night and day difference unless you can fine a 40 series in your price range.
Bottom line we got along with our 4430 just fine, but we had an 8430 as the main workhorse/tillage tractor so that kept the wear and tear off the smaller tractor.
