Bloomfield, KY. | The NCAA investigated Calipari thoroughly regarding the incidents that caused them to vacate the Final Four appearances.
He was cleared by the NCAA of any wrongdoing.
To refresh your memory, the UMASS incident was caused by Marcus Camby taking money from an agent while playing @ UMASS--not something a coach would condone or participate in.
The Memphis incident involved Derrick Rose hiring someone to take his SAT test. Again, the NCAA found that Calipari had no involvement in this.
Calipari wanted the UK job when Tubby Smith left, but AD Mitch Barnhart was concerned about the vacated Final Fours in Cal's past.
After the Billy Gillispie debacle, he knew that Cal still wanted the UK job, so he talked to the NCAA about Cal's status with them. They assured Barnhart that Cal was innocent of any wrongdoing and had been completely cleared. This is tantamount to getting clearance from the FBI and the Supreme Court, as the NCAA Enforcement Office has final say on any questions about any coach or program.
