WC IL
It could be one of the shift solenoids, on the right side behind the step. I think there are 3 or 4 of them. I had one go bad on a 8730 and it wouldn't do anything, had to put it in limp mode to get to the shed. It just quit working after I got out of the tractor to answer nature's call. Can't remember how I diagnosed it, but I remember I called a friend with a service manual to figure it out. Seems like maybe we used an ohmmeter to diagnose it. If that is what it is, not too bad to fix, seems like the solenoid was around $200. Seems like the gear indicator on mine went blank also. Good luck.
