Subject: Re: Tax Question

You might want to check with your tax accountant about the legalities of using 179 on shed repairs. Tool sheds/shops in themselves do not qualify for 179 so 179ing repairs might be a little iffy. I would suspicion if the "repair" extended the life of the building then it may need to be depreciated. If it was a repair to fix something that did not increase the life expectancy, or was replacing something that was damaged by accident or storm then it could be wrote off under "repairs". At least that is what we have run into in the past.

When I built my shop the insulation, wiring, & inside siding had to be depreciated over the life of the building. Workbench material, parts bins & shelving were expensed out that year as they were not permanent fixtures.
