| Tin Can Sailors is superb. Neptune's Inferno is kind of the equivelant for the naval battles in the Guadalcanal campaign by same author and a great read as well. To straddle WW2 a bit, this winter I read Last Call by Daniel Okrent, the story of Prohibition, and Man on the Moon by Andrew Chaikin about the Apollo program. Two eras that produced an awful lot of things that still impact us every day. All of those authors are every bit as good as Ambrose at making enjoyable to read history. | |
