| Last of the Tin Can Sailors- John D. Hornfischer. Heroic battle off Samar in the Phillipines campain during WWII when a handful of destroyers and destroyer escorts with an escort carrier turned back a Japanese armada of fast cruisers and battleships intent on destroying the US transports and invation beachhead. Unbelievable sense of duty and sacrifice by the US Navy. Well written, heartbreaking telling of a not very often told story. Greatest Generation, indeed.
