2nd time I have heard that today on hear.
Why is COBRA so expensive?
Cobra is the right for the employee to keep purchasing the insurance he/she was already getting!!!
Only difference is the EMPLOYER isn't paying any of the tab.
Group insurance can be more expensive for an empolyer then many people realize. The reason for this is, many group plans accept you regardless of your prior health. With a personal health policy, you have to be "underwritten" and the better your heath, the lower your rates. Group insurance doesn't have this personal underwriting.
Cobra is an extension of the group plan. Some people with bad health might not be accepted on a personal policy, however, MUST be accepted on COBRA.
