Subject: Grain Storage/Drying

Ontario
Have been looking at expanding our on farm storage. Last year we finally got a GT batch dryer (first dryer we have had) and got through harvest running it without much of a set up (it was on its own, had to have a truck to fill and a truck to empty to move grain over to the bins). We are wanting to add another corn bin for next year. A local supplier is working on a deal that would see them take down two fairly new in bin dryers with stirators. The quoted price on them put back up at our place was not much more than just a new bin (only looking to get one of them). Father's thought was that we could sell the batch dryer, put that money towards the in bin dryer, and get the extra storage for really not that much more money. We would only need to turn the dryer bin once/maybe twice during harvest to fill the other bins. To really set up the batch dryer we would have to move it and put in a wet bin, and then still put up another corn bin to match the total storage of the other system. Question is does it make sense to go to the in bin dryer, or should we spend quite a bit more money and set up with the batch dryer right? I know someone is going to say go to a continuous flow, but just aren't quite there yet, don't put enough through it yet to justify one, or keep it going. Plans are to continue to expand into the future so that is a consideration too.

Also thinking about how these would tie into the bins we already have. Thinking we may need to go to a blower system to make it work. How are these on beans? We grow some IP beans that we have to store and quality is very important with them.
