It's not a joke. A white/light colored ring around the nose is typical of Jerseys. In fact, it is one of the characteristics used when enrolling genetic recovery animals to verify that they are truly Jerseys. I'm sure it is also found in other breeds, but breed a Jersey to almost any other breed and you will see the white ring in the calf.
