Poor little baby snakes... can't you convince her that those are earthworms on steroids? I shouldn't laugh. I went back to the steer barn just last night and a Norway rat ran across the feed aisle about 6 inches from my feet. I think they heard me scream in the next county.
You could try putting coarse gravel around your window wells. Snakes won't cross it if it's good, sharp gravel.
