It really does seem to work in ponds if you get it out early enough. Only barley will work, wheat has no effect. Sink a couple of bales for every acre every month or so and it will stay clean. Have to get it out before the algae starts to grow.

It is a small market still, but has kind of made a premium on barley straw here just because there is so little barley grown. When I was growing up, 80's and 90's, Coors and Anheuser-Busch had a lot of brew barley grown here. They quit contracting here, wheat market took off, and now its hard to find barley straw to bale.
