There is a valve stem at the back with the air tanks that you can use to fill the system but it only fills the airbags not the tank. Like cornbinder said, the compressor fills the tanks and if they are empty, it takes a while. I think it puts 120 psi in them before it shuts off. Up at the tanks there should be two solenoids, one marked fill and one marked exhaust, there is a brass, manual overide button on the bottom of each of them. If you hold the override on the fill one, it allows you to use the valve stem and it will fill the air bags and tanks at the same time. I usually dont put the full 120 psi in this way but it at least gives the compressor a head start.

This year I took the drain cock out of one of the tanks and ran an air line down to the bottom step and added a tee so I can fill the tanks alone with a valve stem or drain the water out from the ground with it folded up.
