Kaukauna WI | We wanted to work for ourselves too. That's why we did it. 30 years later, we have a lot to show for it, financially, but it came with a price, that being time spent with family was very limited at times. The farm always came first. I'm almost embarrassed to admit it. We had so much on the line we felt like we couldn't ever let up. (we had 2 kids before we started, with one on the way, and then TWINS). The biggest problem with starting from scratch on your own: no one to back you physically, mentally, financially, emotionally.
So, if you plan on ever getting married, the woman will have to be very special and understanding that if there's a cow having a calf, or throwing her uterus out, or a calf that needs electrolytes every 4 hours, that will come first, Christmas Eve, whatever, because you will feel obligated because there's no one else to do it.
