With a little effort on the guess rows, you will be pleased with this combination. So far it has not been pointed out that you will be on guess rows only 1/2 the time. Starting with 6 leaving 2( No guess middles). Next pass picks those 2 + next 4(1 guess middle), leaving 4. Next pass takes those 4 + 2 (1 guess middle), Next pass takes 6 with no guess middles, and you start over!

I plant and harvest 8. Neighbor plants and harvest 6. We work together at harvest, and seldom feel like we lose much corn with either combination...8 on 6, or 6 on 8.
Of course harvesting 8 with planting 6 always puts you on a guess middle.

You might want to plan your headland row count as multiples of 6 and 8...eg. 24 rows. After opening up a field, my neighbor and I lay out lands of usually 24 or 48 rows..both numbers divide evenly by 6 and 8.

I hope this is clearer than mud! It is easier to do than explain!
