A 2500 HD should handle that load without any issues, provided the trailer is loaded correctly - don't know what to tell you on that. But you asked how much better a gooseneck trailer would be... it would be a night and day difference. If you are going to be hauling more than occasionally I would opt for a gooseneck trailer.
