I would make to edit the feature areas to say it is non-productive. You can do this by right clicking the feature area under the field and selecting edit. Then select all or one of the exclusion areas and right click again - selecting properties and defining it as a non-productive area of some type.
Not sure if that answers your question completely. But it can help refine your map.
