Statesville, NC | I don't think cylinder wear was ever an issue with any horizontal cylinder engine. What would have been interesting is if they would have both pistons on the same crank throw, so the firing would be every 360 degrees instead of 180 then 540. I think the reason they didn't do it was too much weight to counter balance. It would have eliminated the need for the two barrel carburetor and intake. I saw one converted that way once. It had a very different sound, and would kind of bounce at an idle, but smoothed out some at higher speed. | |
