I actually got that quote ,about men returning from the war wanting multi-cylinder engines, from the book" History of JD" it also stated JD engineers knew the 2 cylinder engines day had came to an end, with the men returning
home from the war, after being around multi cylinder air craft engines. Deere tried a V- 4 engine , was ready to produce it ,but couldn't see around the cylinder heads to row crop cultivate, so they scraped the V-4 ,and went with the in-line 6.
