Subject: Which tires get better traction? 20.8x42 or 710x38

Having a discussion on which tires would get better traction on tile plow tractor. I'm being told narrower tires like 18.4x46 or 20.8x42 would be better than the 710x38 tires because they are narrower and get a better bite. I would think that the 710's are putting more rubber to the ground and with the weight of a 35,000 to 40,000 pound tractor would be a better choice. Anyone want to educate me?

I see a lot of scraper tractors have just big singles and it would be my guess that for better traction?
Thanks
