we had a 3406E 2WS engine. it was factory rated at 425 and i had it cranked up and it was a flat powerhouse. it would out pull our 550 hp c-15's on the hills. the only problem it ever gave us was the starter. service manager at mack told me the 14L detroit is made by mercedes and wasn't as reliable as the 60 series. he also told me john deere designed the 60 series. i don't know if there is any truth to that or not.
