Subject: RE: 1086 cab and shifting

Schlegel Farms, Hagerstown Indiana
About every 120-130 hours I have to adjust the clutch, TA, and transmission brake on this old girl. It take two people because you have to adjust some rods with the clutch pedal pushed down ( I have a neighbor who has cut a block of wood...I just get help). If adjusted correctly you should be able to idle the engine, count to three, and it will slide right in to gear. If it gets hard to get out of gear with out the TA back, or won't stop grinding it needs adjusted. Also keeping the shift mechanism oiled helps.

I don't know what brand it was, but I put one of the cab kits Shoup sells in it a few years ago and have been happy with it.
As far as advice on a cab kit.......take the seat out before you start....makes it much easier.

Biggest complaint I had with the 86 series IH's was the rough ride. I put an air ride seat in this one and it made a whole new tractor out of it.
