Subject: RE: Silo unloaders

You can say what you want, but I'd take a new ring drive unloader with an auger over thos stupid Patz chains any day...............Ran acouple 98 Patz's that are pack drive/chain and they were nothing but a headache to both use and keep up. Like the others said, fussy to get going, and then a pain in the winter as well if the chipper decides to quit. I personally would look very hard at the ring drive, auger model that patz makes.............I looked at one right when they came out and was very impressed. Also, I like the looks of Jamesway's Volumax model I believe it is. One thing nice with an auger machine is you won't get a hump like you can with a chain, and my personal opinion is you can move more feed with an auger to the blower than a chain. We had an old Big Jim that was used in haylage and even though the automatic lowering curcuitry didn't work right, it sill would move more feed than a 98B and those filled a silo so evenly it was as hard as concrete. Big Jim's are nice to use, but you were really limited blowing feed in, atleast the one here couldn't take it very fast filling.

Also, with all the used silo unloaders in this area sitting in empty silos, you must be a real glutton for punishment if your still moving unloaders from silo to silo in 2012........Moved motors for awhile here, that stopped when we finally declared this was stupid. Time is money and we had better things to do...........
