nw NC | I have filled silos with small grain silage. I can not see that it would be much different than your haylage, which I assume is alfalfa. Our Van Dale surface drives ( auger machines) unloaded it with no problem . If unloader was run at full load on the motor , the auger spreading the feed down the feed bunk could not move it out the bunk fast enough without jamming up on the bearing hangers. A dairyman friend in Minnesota has a Van Dale surface drive in a 16X60 filled with alfalfa haylage. When I visited there four years ago he was running the unloader and it was putting feed down the chute at a good clip. From my experience and what I saw at his farm , I can tell you that a Van Dale will unload haylage at a speed you would find satisfactory. | |
