Subject: Re: Silo unloaders

Faunsdale, AL
I really looked hard at going to flat storage instead of repairing these, but it would have been such a shift for us and we had none of the equipment that would have made it all work except for a large chopper and a 4WD tractor to pack with. No trucks, and fequently we get rainy weather when we're chopping so we can't even go with tractors and wagons, so using only trucks would always be fraught with uncertainity.

Anyway, we had the closest 3 silos which were 20x70's and the oldest torn down and built a 24 x 80 back on the site nearest the remaining 3 24x70's. Rebuilt the half knocked down 24x70 and replaced ladders, chutes. blower pipes and roofs on the two which were full of silage on the far end. In the end we're down about one 20x70 worth of storage, but didn't have the corn for it anyway. We had some late scrappy stuff we put in a small bag and some nicer corn that was too far away to haul home which went for grain instead of silage.
