Subject: corn vs beans 08

Contract prices for october 08 is $3.70 for corn and $9.03 for beans. Figuring your input cast for both crops plus $220 cash rents the profit ratio favors corn over beans by by a factor of 2 times. 175 bu of corn vs 50 bu of beans. 200 bushel corn vs 60 bushel beans would not change the profit ratio. If you allocate some of your fertilizer dollar to the beans it calculates out even worse. I know I wouldn't be raising 50 plus bushels of beans if I wasn't pushing the fertilizer to the corn.

Use your numbers, they may not agree with mine.
