We used to use one for that behind a disk and another behind a feild cultivator, they work real good as long as the chains are hooked short enough so they don't drag too much dirt in front of them. Finding out how long the chains need to be is a crap shoot. I would say to set the tool on the ground and pull the pole up to the back of it leaving about 18"to24" between them and then hook your chains, after you use it for a while you may need to adjust it some. Be sure to hook it by drilling through the pole and not wrapping the chains around it, they will ware off real fast.

As for transport, how big of a tool are you using and how much road travel do you have? When we used this set up our tools were much smaller and we normally just let the poles scrub along on the road in transport. This actually helped the pole do a better job since it would ware the bottom of it flat.
