Subject: Doing a static test on an air compressor tank.

Extreme SW Minnesota Iowa border
Is there a way of checking the air holding ability of an air compressor tank with water? IF a person were to load up and old air tank with say, 300 pounds of water pressure, it should hold it, just like if it was 300 pounds of air pressure, but water wouldn't be so explosive. Is that how they test tanks? I can remember years ago reading about that but never tried it. I have a rather large air tank that I use, that is getting older, and really don't like getting blowed up.
