Bars can be flipped or reversed for wear. There are dedicated forward bars and reverse bars and a bar's orientation does not change its function with respect to crop flow. These normally last a long time if they are chrome versions. Check your book for specs, but good rule of thumb is that rasps should be about the depth of #2 pencil. They should be reversed before the wear gets too pronounced on the leading edge, otherwise you forfeit your ability to flip them. If you want a number, 1200-1500 separator hours in "normal" corn/beans. Concaves should last longer but generally the machine will tell you when its time for renewal. Corn doesn't need much, as long as you can maintain proper geometry in the machine (lateral and fore/aft indexing specs). As long as you can maintain this and get a decent sample in beans, keep running it. 2000 hrs and up not uncommon for chrome version. If you have black bars and concave, then these numbers are less.
