Possibly is the answer to your first question, it is a good one, I mentioned it in a phone call yesterday. Bill Moyer has worked with it in Michigan. Sounds like it could work for you and you need to do some tests.

We use it in at least a 2 by 2 away from the furrow.

Have not worked much with your second question.
