I'm checking my 8182 White planter also and I think the spring that engages the drive when planter is lowered might have been adjusted to tight by previous owner or operator, maybe because of a grease and dirt buildup not letting the parts slide on shaft as they should therefore the spring was adjusted in the field to get it to work..I had a 5100 for years and never had any problems with it.
