I'm not familiar with the ATU but the Resume switch on my non-autotrac ready 8120 does have a function relating to the autoshift feature. 

This is where you can preset a gear selection.  If you change gears (on headlands for example) you can push the Resume switch and the transmission shifts to the preset gear.  It will also downshift under heavy loads for you.  I rarely use this but it is functional.
