Subject: Wean to Finish questions

SE NE
I'm a young farmer and would like to get more diversified, and I'm getting tired of working part time and odd jobs when my custom farming is out of season. I do custom planting, fertilizing, drilling, and harvesting. But during the off time I find work with neighors putting up pivots or pouring concrete. I don't mind the work just would like to be working for myself.

So with that being said I'm looking into feeding hogs in a Wean - Finish system. I've been penciling out the numbers but would like some real life #s not just university setting numbers. I would like to own the pigs, we have a BTO near by that can supply enough weaned pigs in about 3 days to fill a 2400hd barn.
The contract feeding just doesn't seem to pay much after you figure in repairs and depreciation.

Death loss %
Feed efficiency
Trucking cost
Marketing
Labor hrs.
Cost of hauling your own manure.
Cost of grinding your own feed.

Also do any of you guys seperate the barrows from the gilts?

Thanks
Dustin
