They keep the cattle from going down. I have one in my Titan West chute. It doesn't bother if you are trying to get a calf to suck. It doesn't go that far back. Sometimes I think it can imped the flow of cattle into the headgate. I looked at the neighbors Titan hydraulic chute last weekend and it had one in also. He said it didn't bother.
