I am in now way am one to judge, but if you want to compare the two on lever placement, the 806 and 4020 for that matter.  You would have to be on drugs to think the random placement of levers on an IH 806 has any rhyme or reasoning to it.  Lets see here, PTO lever behind the seat, throttle up in front of the steering wheel, TA on the left console, hydraulic lever down literally on the right floor, two shift levers that requires the finess of an 18 wheeler driver to get in gear, and lets not forget the park brake lever down between your legs.  I have to believe this is a tractor fit for an octupus!

Doesn't the 4020 have the throttle behind the steering wheel? The pto lever behind the seat is a lot handier to put the auger in gear, I've seen posts on here where people have added stuff to their jds so they wouldn't have to climb on to put them in gear. Only a few of the early 806s had the very short hyd levers, the levers on most 806s and all 856s were handier than the dash levers on the 4010s and non console 4020s. I'd rather have a transmission that is a little harder to get into gear than one that pops out of 6th when you are going down hill with a load of silage behind like the synchros do.
