SW Saskatchewan | Because of floor movement, no rigid connection should be from cement to floor.
The ground floor should be supported by beams and joist sized to bear the weight loads, then the beams are supported by post jacks that can be adjusted.
Because the basement floor will be subject to movement, no wall should be rigidly installed, an air gap is a necessity with large nails acting as alignment pins with holes drilled in the plates and then driven into the floor joists just enough to allow vertical movement down as well as up.
Keeping the post jacks properly adjusted will be enough work without being forced to remove walls to resize them. | |
