Using a voltmeter, check the brown wire voltage with the engine shut off then start the engine and recheck. The voltage should be around 12 volts and rise to 14-14.5 with the engine running.
Unless you have an ampmeter and a load pile, it is difficult to test for amp output to see if it is within specs.
