I could see where it would be nice in livestock and fertilizer operations that need to run even in sub freezing weather. Also, operations with trucks running in salt. I'd say its as much to contain the solids as the liquids. It can also serve as a good place to pull something in that is covered in ice or snow and let it melt off. I would not say it is a necessity, but a nice convenience. It would be nice to be able to wash and not have to worry about if the material and water were flying all over hitting other projects or people. It would mostly depend on the operation I guess.
