Buffalo IL
The calf having a deformed head could be hydrocephalic(sp?). In other words it developed with water on the brain. It is caused by a recessive gene trait and you would need to find a bull that is not a carrier. There is another genetic disorder called Fawn disease. I am not sure but it could be a cause for premature calves. I'll see what I can find out. The other genetic disorder currently is "Curly" calves but they have another name for it. Went to look them up and everyone of the search results would n't download. If you rule out any diseases it could be a genetic cause and it is highly likely if you have been buying Good quality angus bulls. Just have to replace them with clean bulls and they are all tested now.
