northwest tennessee | You could still be having a problem with either BVD or lepto. That is a killed virus vacc I believe and start getting your heifers vacc twice with a mod. live vacc before breeding. The killed virus vacc will not protect the fetus at different stages like the mod live will. I would try to get one to a lab and see if they find anything. My vet told me once that if you are going to have trouble with calving issues it will be in the first ones of the year and I have found him to be right. Maybe after one or two things will straighten out. I believe the lepto vacc is all killed virus but not sure. Do they have funny shaped foreheads? If you are haveing this type problem too it will help to calve them in warmer weather. If the cows are in better shape and under less stress even though they may still have a problem with a disease it will not show up as readily. This is all IF it is caused by disease. | |
