SW Sask
Hey, 10987. Very well said. In my former life, I played with FlexiCoil Bartons, Deere and CaseIH SDX disk openers. All had some conditions where they performed great, and other conditions where performance was (in my opinion) unacceptable.

Green and red had very few adjustments, so if conditions were bad, you had to decide on gambling on rain.... On the FlexiCoil 6000, between the bar and the opener, you could adjust geometry eight ways to Sunday. The issue was that it took some black magic (and sometimes settings opposite to the manual!) to hit it right.
When it was right, it was a dream, but if the soil got more or less dry, or the residue changed, or the soil texture changed....

For my money, if I was worried about disturbance, I'd go with a narrow hoe opener and single shoot, and try to go as slow as reasonable. Variable performance and maintenance requirements would break me from the drinkin' I'd have to do to cope!

Dakotans - I've seen soybeans sprout in an open trench staring at the sun. Your challenges are totally different from the dryland SW Sask conditions I grew up with, so disk openers might fit into what you're doing...
