West Fargo, ND | I have read quite a bit on here and have learned quite a bit on soils but would like an opinion on our type of ground up here in the RRV. I am trying to make some fertilizer recommendations and not break my growers while I'm at it. I'll tell you up front I'm a sales agronomist but don't hold that against me. I only recommend what I would do on my own farm, so don't think we are all bad. Anyway quite a few of my fields are calling for large amounts of nutrients and I don't want growers to think I am just selling fertilizer. Background: Grow corn, soybeans and sugarbeets. Very rarely to growers fertilize for soybeans. For 180 bushel corn NDSU fertilizer average recs for my ground are 165-90-90. Some of our blends are 600-700+lbs/acre! Give me your opinions. Is there anything that will help besides drainage? Thanks
P.S. We have started tissue sampling, but with the wet weather we had last year I am not so sure of the results. Plus I still have quite a few growers who feel that tissue sampling is just another way for us to get money out of them.
