| Monsanto has done alot for the world.
They have done a lot to destruct the world indeed. None of the Monsanto genes is aimed at increasing yield per se.
The increase yield is mostly caused by better farming practices over the years, which are happening even on non GMO corn, and by the initial reduction of losses caused by weeds, although weeds have now adapted.
True, some farming practices like no-till work better with GMOs, but they are not specific to it and can even be improved on.
And of course, with increased yields come decreased prices from overproduction. Only the artificial demand for ethanol keeps it from going lower.
I really doubt we'll reach an average of 320 bushels in 20 years, and that it would have anything to do with Monsanto. |
